The Upstart Crows were formed in New Hampshire in 2015. Jon (Singer, Guitar) and Forest (Bass, backup singer) met in the college theatre department and quickly started writing music together. During those days The Upstart Crows were a two-piece powerhouse and enjoyed playing at many local DIY shows. This lasted until they both graduated, after which they operated on a long-distance band model. They would meet up one or twice a week at a mid-point location (sometimes a van in a parking lot, sometimes at a 'renovated' rehearsal space in an abandoned factory) and practiced for shows all around New England, from dive bars to coffee shops.

In September of 2016, Jon moved to Brooklyn in NYC to pursue his music career. Forest joined soon after and the two of them set about discovering the NYC rock/punk scene and, in 2018, released their self-titled album (finally). They played many venues during this time including Arlene's Grocery, Our Wicked Lady, Bar Freda, Sugar Mouse, The Econolodge, The Windjammer, The Gutter, and Bowery Palace. It was here that the Crows honed their anxiety ridden folk-rock sound to bring to the people. Their latest EP 'Little Broken Pieces' debuted in 2025.

Today the Upstart Crows are still based in NYC and have set their sights on other states and venues. The Upstart Crows' goal is to share their experiences and feelings about the world with the hope that others can enjoy their music and relate to the lyrics.
